Engagement Pathway

Many organizations I work with will have bits and pieces of how they engage their clients and constituents. My general observation is that these organizations don’t have these pieces well thought out and certainly haven’t though how they strategically impact the constituent.

This is where we try and map out what that process for clients looks like; and we call that an engagement pathway… the pathway in which you engage your client.

Imagine if you were able to map out a pathway that’s strategic, engaging, measurable, and connected with various resources. That’s the goal every organization should have with it’s clients – to provide a sound experience from start to finish.

Engagement Pathways enable organizations to consistently reach clients with high quality and great resources. Remember the old Benjamin Franklin quote, “Failure to plan is planning to fail”.

Challenge: Consider how you can strategically engage your clients and map that experience for them.

Introducing Strengths

You may have heard of StrengthsQuest or maybe StrengthsFinder. The Gallup organization has done a fantastic job creating one of the best assessment resources I’ve ever encountered. Allow me a moment to introduce you to a tool that I will be referencing from time to time.

Now, if you are anything like me I don’t care much for standardized assessments – they seem to general, too restrictive, and quite frankly… too difficult to use in any real way. StrengthsFinder is anything but those things. It’s creative, unique to each individual, & extremely useful in the workplace.

I will say that Strengths is mostly intended for you to engage those around you but before I spend much more time on the resource I have to encourage you to take the assessment. The cheapest way I’ve found it to purchase Strengths 2.0 online from Amazon and use the code from the book. It is a proprietary resource so each code demands a fee.

Trust me, you will learn to love this assessment. I will cover plenty more on the topic of Strengths in articles to come.

Challenge: Take the StrengthsFinder assessment online and read through your review.

More than a Survey

Many organizations seek to learn customer or consumer facts by simple and non-strategic methods… such as generalized surveys. Sure, surveys can be useful to collect key data in a very narrow yet defined criteria and method.

But what if you want more, what do you do? The next best step is often to speak with the consumer directly. Speaking with consumers is useful but we must realize that consumers don’t necessarily know or fail to have the ability to articulate what they need.

I believe the greatest way to gage real consumer needs is to observe them in action. Consumers may not be able to articulate a need, but have them perform that certain task, have them go through that certain process, observe what they do and don’t do, and you’ll learn a ton.

Challenge: Think through ways that you can observe key areas of consumer need – think beyond the survey.
